Blessed FRANCISCO MARTO

 

Francisco Marto was born on June 11, 1908, in Aljustrel.  A very sensitive and contemplative boy, he directed all his prayer and penance towards 'consoling Our Lord.'

He died a saintly death in April 4, 1919, in his parents' house.

His mortal remains were buried in the parish cemetery until March 13, 1952, when they were translated to the eastern side of the Basilica.

Francisco and Jacinta were proclaimed Blessed by Pope John Paul II, in Fátima on May 13, 2000.
